Movies from the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die – List have a *

1) Shopping (1994)
Boring. No real story and uninteresting characters.

2) Sons of the Desert (1933)*
I don’t think Laurel and Hardy are funny. But it was better then I feared.

3) The Black Cat (1934)*
The story was interesting, only the American couple had too many scenes *lol* But most of all Karloff and Lugosi are such a joy to watch.

4) Waruboro (2007)
Most of the movie was shouting and hitting. The plot could have been good but it was spread too thin over the film. Great cast, but even they couldn’t make it a joy to watch. Too bad.

5) Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957)*
Not bad at all. I liked how the story and character relationship progression seemed natural and not at all pushed by the script. A personal highlight was DeForest Kelly <3

6) Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960)*
I liked the (audio) book better but I didn’t even like that very much. A straight forward story with characters that are boring.

7) Boys Love 2 (2007)
Confusing name but a good movie. I’d like to have seen more of the second couple Riku and Ichiyou but it was sufficient as it was. Good movie, interesting storyline and nice characters (and actors). The music was good as well only in a few scenes too much. And that camera rotation during the kiss wtf? All in all good and I liked it better then Boys Love.

8) Tangled (2010)
Fun movie. Something you’d expect from Disney.

9) The Sweet Hereafter (1997)*
Not bad. But it wasn’t my kind of movie.

10) Do Começo ao Fim (2009) From Beginning to End
wonderful portrait of their love. But I missed a bit the climax. I couldn’t see what the story was. We see how (much) they love each other and that is all nice and beautiful but apart from that? Maybe I missed the point. Maybe they should have shown more of the parents uneasiness/helplessness. But over all a nice movie.

11) The War Game (1965)*
Brilliant film. Everybody should watch this film. It’s so important and still true and relevant.

12) An American Werewolf in London (1981)*
I love Jack and David’s interaction. The story is interesting – even though you kinda know what’s going to happen. And the scene in the porno theatre is just hilarious XD

13) The Grapes of Wrath (1940)*
Well done film.

14) Dog Day Afternoon (1975)*
Nice movie.

15) Rookies: Sotsugyô (2009) Rookies: Graduation
Somehow I got the feeling they were crying all the time *lol* Not as good as the tv show but simply because you had only limited time to tell the story. It probably would have been better as second season. Still, it end the series in a nice way.

16) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)
It’s part 1 of 2. That means there is no real ending. It’s a part that continues the story however it does lack a climax and at least a somewhat ending. All we get is a “breather”-segment, which is okay for a cliffhanger but not for a movie. Despite that I like the movie. It’s interesting and different from the earlier ones, which gives it a fresh feeling.

17) Duck Soup (1933)*
Simply not my thing.

18) Now, Voyager (1942)*
A nice love story but the portrayal of mental illness is bad. Of course you can overcome a life of mistreatment in a few month *rolleyes* Apart from that fact I liked the film.

19) The Palm Beach Story (1942)*
Good Screwball Comedy, if you like them.

20) Modern Times (1936)*
In the beginning it seems like a mixture of a talking picture and a silent film but it becomes more and more a “classic” Chaplin film. Quite enjoyable and a good film to mark the end of “the tramp”

21) Dance of the Vampires (1967)
The story is not that new, thought it does have some interesting factors. I like the little quirks in it as well the little usage of music. Sadly when music is used my ears hurt from it. I enjoyed the dry approach coupled with the professors excitement over his studies. Though it was hard to stay interested at times because this.

22) Avatar (2009)*
great effects and visually appealing. Other then that it’s boring. Seen the story a hundred times, nothing new, nothing special. Not even the characters where intriguing or did anything besides fulfilling the role in the story.

23) There Will Be Blood (2007)*
Somehow this movie didn’t seem to have a point. Then again, I don’t think his life had a point. I liked the movie. Well done.

24) Little Miss Sunshine (2006)*
Interesting characters. I love how they reduce the contest to absurdity. But you don’t really get any conclusion or question or something to think about. It’s just a slice of life.

25) Red Riding: In the Year of Our Lord 1974 (2009)
Sex, crime, violence, coursing that sums up the movie. boring. I can’t believe there are 2 other parts to this.

26) The King’s Speech (2010)
good movie, liked it a lot.

27) Thor (2011)
I guess it’s what you can expect from a comic based superhero film.

28) Hangover 2 (2011)
Nice movie for “not thinking” and also good for a few laughs.

29) Hangover (2009)*
Since I saw the second one first I didn’t like it as much. It’s not as funny but I thought it was interesting for me getting some answers as to what they were referring to in the second one XD Also both films not only have the same premise there are some elements that are present in both e.g. Doug isn’t with them, they have a living being with them (baby; ape), saying that a dentist isn’t a *real* doctor, Stu has done something to him (pulled out tooth, tattoo), Alan drugged them, they have to rush to a wedding, they get threatened, have a turn in with the police, get the wrong guy, have to get some money,… But they pulled it off somehow. It’s not too dull seeing it twice

30) Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)*
Not bad. But nothing one has to see.

31) The Odd Couple (1968)
I really liked this one. Very funny but also a nice story.

32) Flags of Our Fathers (2006)
Probably interesting for Americans but not for me. I am not American and I don’t give a damn about it. Good film but as I said: not relevant for me.

33) Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)
brutal. And I hope I will never ever have to go through anything like that. I wish nobody would ever have to.

34) The Fly (1986)*
Maybe if someone would have told me that it stars Jeff Goldblum I would have watched it earlier. It’s an interesting concept, sadly the second half falls down to be just like an old horror movie. It’s boring since you know what will happen and it only wants to shock, nothing more. And it could have more depth if someone would have bothered to try.

35) Double Indemnity (1944)*
It couldn’t capture my interest but I always had this problem with film noir.

36) Laura (1944)*
Interesting how the perspective changes throughout the film. I also liked that it wasn’t that easily to figure out who was the murder.

37) The Lost Weekend (1945)*
well done movie for its time.

38) Red River (1948)*
foreseeable but still an interesting film.

39) Ringu (1998) *
I like this better then the remake, partially because I think such a story fits better into Japanese mythology then American. I liked the characters and the speed of the story telling.

40) Skhizein (2008) [short]
nice!

41) The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) *
wonderful, funny film.

42) Philadelphia (1993)*
I don’t really know what to think about it. One one hand an important film on the other they could have made it better.

43) Shaun of the Dead (2004)
entertaining

44) Captain America – The First Avenger (2011)
I am not that much into Superheroes but this movie was nice. not much for the brain but action-wise pretty neat.

45) Shrek Forever After (2010)
entertaining like the other movies.

46) The Bourne Identity (2002)
Not bad I guess if you like such sort of thing.

47) Kondom des Grauens (1996) Killer Condom
funny as it shows how stupid such movies actually are XD

48) Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011)
Not as fun as the first one but a nice sequel. I liked hoe the did the dream/flashback sequences.

49) The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)*
Brings the story to an end and that’s all what the movie is suppose to do.

50) The A-Team (2010)
Not bad for a modern version but I prefer watching the series

51) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
Good Ending for the films.

52) Inglourious Basterds (2009)*
For once an entertaining nazi-movie. Including people who actually can speak German!

53) Reservoir Dogs (1992)*
good movie.

54) The Departed (2006)*
I really liked the movie since it was refreshing to see the psychological pressure the people are under and the stress they have to endure.

55) No Country For Old Men (2007)*
Interesting, yet it couldn’t grab me

56) Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (2011)
intense, interesting, touching. I loved it.

57) Red Riding: In the Year of Our Lord 1980 (2009)
Not bad in continuing the story but making it different. Sadly I wasn’t interested in the story at all. Better then the first film though.

58) Red Riding: In the Year of Our Lord 1983 (2009)
It was ok, but I have the same problem with all three of the films: I am not interested

59) Ca$h (2010)
I liked this movie. Sean Bean is always great to watch but I actually was taken in by his character and the changes the couple undergoes.

60) Gantz (2010)
Different then the anime but I liked it better. But I am glad I knew the anime because I understood the characters better that way, but I guess for an action movie they were sufficiently characterized. I liked it.

61) Gantz: Perfect Answer (2011)
Character wise better then the first one but a bit confusing about the plot and what the heck was going on. It was quite messy :p

62) La belle et la bête (1947)* Beauty and the Beast
Good film, I really liked Belle’s initial reactions and then her resistance. She doesn’t want to admit that she fell in love but in the end she gives in.(and pretty convenient for her that she gets her old love as well^^). I liked how the film progresses especially without any spectacle. Since this is a French film I didn’t think I would like it but actually I did so indeed.

63) Comedian Harmonists (1997)
Good film, I really enjoyed it.

64) Pather Panchali (1955)*
Well done, I enjoyed it even though it’s depressing somehow.

65) Yattâman (2009) Yatterman
Since this is a live action feature film of an anime it certainly has the same characteristics. I do not know the anime but you know right away it originated from one. Which doesn’t mean it is bad. Even though it’s not my kind of movie I think it is well done. I enjoyed the scenes where the “great signature shots” were shown a bit longer so one could actually see for example that it’s not that pleasant riding on a dog around the world ;) What I didn’t like was the fact that I felt watching a live action hentai at times. I felt embarrassed watching it. Nothing against sexy costumes (aren’t we used to that?) but when two robots who destroy each other having an orgasm while doing that I think that’s a bit too much for me.

66) FC Venus (2005)
At first I thought this would be a boring film since you already knew the plot from the description/trailer. But I was wrong. It was fun to watch since it wasn’t as straight forward as I expected it to be.

67) Ôoku (2010)
Great film. I enjoyed it a lot, though I would have loved to see more of it. Maybe a short series. I liked to see more of the inner workings and relationships there, even those we hadn’t have time to explore more but you could sense there is a story to tell. And it’s always a joy to see great actors at work.

68) Iron Man (2008)
I liked it and thought the character change was believable. But I still don’t know what they produce now instead of weapons.

69) Iron Man (2010)
Not as good as the first one but a good follow up on the events of the first film.

70) The Incredible Hulk (2008)
It wasn’t bad but it felt like a sequel. I think it might be too confusing for someone who has no idea about Hulk.

71) Fish Tank (2009)*
I liked it. I’d gone for Connor too^^

72) Orphans of the Storm (1921)*
Good movie. Probably I like best of Griffith films. Lots of emotions, drama, turn of events and brilliant mass scenes.
